Saturday:
5:30am – wake up, shower, get bag packed for Comic-Con
6:30 – Drive to Skylar’s
7:00 – get in line for Comic-con and wait (start knitting)
8:30 – get registration badge and wait in another line/mob
10:00 – the doors finally open and we walk/walk really fast into the con!
I headed straight over to Angus Oblong’s booth to get my DVD set signed and see what else he had for sale. He had clown makeup on so I couldn’t really tell what he looked like. He was pretty friendly and thought it was funny that he was the whole reason I came to the con. His wife was with him and helped sell stuff at his booth.
I wanted some of his original art (not a print, straight on canvas drawings, no duplicates) and some sketch books but realized the art was cooler. I grabbed 2 small frames with a blond girl in one and a brunette in the other. One say “bitch” the other says. ”whore”. (similar to the pictures in the link) They’re looking at eachother, so i had to get them as a set. That was $40. I realized I didn’t have cash on my (like always) and no check book so i told them to hold them for a moment while I rushed over to the cash machine.
He also signed my DVDs but not with a sharpie. I had to hold the case and wave it around while the ink dried and kept checking it to see if it was ready. after an hour and a half of fanning it around i decided I’d just have to risk it getting smudged. Thankfully it made it home safely.
Then I walked around to find Evan & Skylar. They tried to run over to a booth that was selling 100 limted edition prints of the Hulk reading comics on top of the pike place market sign. They didn’t get there quick enough and the prints were sold out in 3 minutes.
I eventually ended up with 1 print of a girl with tentacles around her and one that looks like Tank girl. Both from the same artist (another $40). A Ben Walker print, of a grissly bear holding 6 shooters and roaring (this is my favorite so far) (only $10!). and a Pin up girl holding a tattoo gun ($12.50 i think, from evan).
We stuck around till 6, when it closed! I had to stay in the area because I was going to see Margaret Cho with mom afterwards and could just walk over. But while the boys ran around and looked at stuff I found a table and knit. Another gal showed up and said “thank goodness, I’m not the only one who brought knitting”. She pulled out a sock and got to work. We talked for a while and found out we’re both on Ravelry
Her guy friends came by and teased us. Now she’s my friend on ravelry, lol.
Margaret Cho was pretty good. A little raunchier than last time though. We had nice seats that weren’t too far forward or back and right in the middle
Sunday evan and skylar went back to the con and mom and I went picture frame shopping. I stopped at Hilltop East first since they mentioned they were having a little sale. $75 later we were really off to by frames. Bellevue Art and Frame is really over priced. We only found one to frame the girl with tentacles.
Next stop was Crossroads. It was pouring by now and I tried to move quickly, carrying all the prints (thankfully they were all wrapped). I dropped the bear! After crossing the street I realized one was missing! I booked it back to the car, not caring if cars were trying to get by and found poor shooting bear face down in the rain! After hurrying inside and grabbing as many napkins i could find, i saw that all the prints were fine.
Luckily, JoAnns was having a sale on frames! We found 4 more frames for 40% off
One picture I had was a photograph of an octopus’s tentacles spread over a lady’s chest. (I have a weird tentacle theme going on) We noticed that the picture itself was strangly sized. I was afraid I’d have to do custom framing, but we found a neat frame with little bumps running around it’s boarder (kinda like suction cups!).
I’m really thankful my mom is so crafty. I’d be lost without her.
Sunday night we headed back to the Paramount to see Cake. The seats were so-so. My fault for not buying sooner. But, as luck would have it, we were surrounded by the stupidest people ever. The guy to Evan’s right obviously came by himself and evan said he could smell booze on him. He kept yelling stupid shit and “whoo-hoo-”ing all night. I had to keep looking at him and glaring in hopes that he’d get the hint. The gals behind us wouldn’t stop talking about stupid stuff either. I thought if I put my ear plugs in it would quiet them. Nope, it made things worse. Since the sound was coming from behind, i could hear it through the back of my head.
The opening band, Throw Me the Statue, was AWFUL. Who allows people to make this kind of music anymore? I almost fell asleep waiting for them to finish. Sometimes the music would be good and upbeat but then they’d start singing and ruin everythhing.
Cake was much better. They brought out a live apple tree on stage and gave it away to the mom in the crowd who had the most kids, lol.
The whole thing was over by 9:45 and we got to bed at our normal time
